According to this article from Wired, the next big pie for venture capitalists to stick their grubby little fingers into could well be ‘Green Technology’. Silicon Valley venture capitalist John Doerr (of Intel, Google and Amazon fame) calls the emerging megacities in China, India and Korea “the mother of all markets” and predicts that people in these areas will be demanding alternative energy in the wake of the rising costs of more traditional fuel sources. Doubtless we’ll see more of the consequences of leaving the market to distribute clean water, air and energy – more enclosure of common lands, further inequalities (the ‘Green-rich’ and the ‘Green-poor’ anybody?) and a nice little earner and tax breaks for the John Doerrs’ of this world . . .
